The newest version of mIRC can always be found at www.mirc.com. mIRC 6.21 is a good enough up-to-date version for now, so it's fine to use that if you want to install new or upgrade from an old one.
If you are installing it new, just save it and click the .exe application to install. If you are upgrading from an older version, save it in the same place the old one is on your computer, and when you click to install, make sure you tell it to save old settings when it asks.

mIRC comes fully capable of doing everything you need to do as a chanop, including kick and ban commands, so it is NOT absolutely necessary to download the quiltchat chanop script if you don't want to, or if your computer is not compatible (i.e. mac) or if it is just too much trouble and you'd rather not do it.
qcscript.mrc is the basic chanop script, which does a few things for you.
It: automatically does a whois and version on everyone as they join #quiltchat
gives you the f12 and shift-f12 shortcuts to do a level 3 & 4 ban on snerts
gives you the /on shortcut to private chat amongst the ops in the tree
gives you the /pass command as a simpler way to identify your nick
*** To download the qcscript, click here . It will do either one of two things. Follow the directions accordingly.
1. If it opens a window giving you the option to open or save the file, click save. Save it in your main mIRC folder (not a subfolder such as downloads). Go on to step 3.
or
2. If instead of asking you to save the file it takes you to a page with the script listed out on it in your browser, then keep that window open and log into mIRC.
In there, click Tools, Scripts Editor, Remote, then click File, New. This will give you a blank page.
On your browser window where the script is listed out, right click, click Select All (this will highlight the entire page) then click Copy. In the Scripts Editor's blank page right click and then click Paste. Then click file, save as. Down near the bottom in File name put qcscript.mrc (Make sure below it says Files of type: All files) then click Save, and Ok. Go on to Step 3.
***
3. In mIRC, in any window type /load -rs qcscript.mrc
It will tell you if it loaded or not, if it says it didn't then you didn't save it in the right folder and it needs to be moved.
To set up the /pass shortcut, type /set %nickpass then-your-id-password
*** note: your nick does NOT go in that line anywhere, just your password.
Unlike loading the script, this command will not tell you if it worked or not, simply type /pass and if it automatically id's you, then it worked.
